Social change is a gradual process mainly because of the scope of the changes involved, said changes of which can be an alteration of the order, behaviour, and relations in society. But the first step toward social change is taking it one step at a time - or in the case of SkyWorks Charitable Foundation, one film at a time.

SkyWorks, established in 1983 as a nonprofit documentary organization, prides itself on its adoption of a three-pronged approach toward social change - as a catalyst, advocate and participant via a novel approach.

Films, documentaries and the like have the power to touch, move and change people, thus, encouraging them to question their belief systems and to take action, among others. This is exactly what SkyWorks wants to achieve via its integrated programs of community-centered production and dissemination of films relevant to the advocacies being promoted within the community and by its members.

Indeed, what better way to educate, enlighten and empower people than by a popular form of modern entertainment? Contemporary social issues can be tackled in a medium that allows both the film audience and the film makers to interact with each other via shared experiences, all while enjoying the film.

SkyWorks uses films, documentaries and the like as the backdrop for a four-point integrated program with the following areas:

  • Encouraging children and their families to act as advocates for social change;
  • Promoting recovery among people with mental health issues by challenging society's stereotypes and breaking down systemic barriers;
  • Providing avenues for information and support of community engagement in a wide range of healthcare policies and programs; and
  • Documenting the societal barriers that prevent people from accessing justice especially for the marginalized people in communities.

Indeed, if you want to become a part of positive social change, then your support for SkyWorks Charitable Foundation is a must. You will not only be part of social change but you will also be able to enjoy the films, documentaries and the like and that's certainly a win-win situation!
