Even airmen can fall to Earth
when personal and professional crises affect them and their families.
Fortunately, the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)
comes to the rescue to give distressed airmen the wings to fly again, so to
speak.
Incorporated in 1942, AFAS is a
non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to
distressed Air Force members and their families. The organization was
originally established as a national organization that can provide emergency
assistance to World War II Air Force members including their wives and
children, a mission that continues to modern-day airmen.
AFAS has one of the highest
ratings in terms of financial stewardship. Every dollar donated supports the
organization’s programs and projects including emergency assistance for basic
living expenses, emergency travel, and medical and dental costs through the
provision of interest-free loans and grants; education grants, merit
scholarships, and loans; and community programs including Car Care, Child Care,
and Bundles for Babies, among others.
With these programs and projects,
distressed airmen and their families can once again become rulers of their
lives, if not of their own figurative skies.
