Established in 1914, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has been actively involved in helping to alleviate hunger and hardships of Jews around the world. JDC operates in Israel and 70 other countries. Although known to serve the Jewish communities, JDC also provides their services to areas in need of immediate assistance. One of their latest programs was to provide aid to victims of Typhoon Haiyan when it hit the Philippines.

JDC was formed during World War I when the Jewish Community recognized the need to help Jewish families in war-torn Palestine and Europe. The organization was active during both World Wars, working hard to assist Jews in ravaged areas. After the wars, JDC established a relationship with the Israeli Government in order to expand their services. Today, the organization is active in any part of the world that requires immediate assistance.

JDC’s services are not limited to alleviating poverty. The organization is highly experienced in providing critical social support in cases of emergencies. They also provide assistance in rebuilding infrastructure and in enabling Jewish communities in becoming self-sustaining.
