In 1994, Tennis superstar Andre Agassi launched his very own nonprofit organization called The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation. The foundation’s mission was initially meant to help children through programs that involve education, recreation, and social services. In order to raise money for his foundation, Agassi hosted the first annual Grand Slam for Children, a benefit concert that brought together some of the music industry’s legends and superstars to perform for a cause. The first Grand Slam for Children raised $1.8 million which was then allocated towards the foundation’s various programs. Other major programs the foundation was involved in were supporting the Nevada Tennis Association’s program called Project Serve, as well as opening up a recreational facility for young boys and girls called the Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club and a shelter that offers classes to children under protective custody at the government-run Child Haven called the Agassi Center for Education.

By 2000, the foundation chose education to be its primary focus and began planning another major project – a public charter school called the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy or Agassi Prep. The school’s elementary department opened that same year. The middle school department followed in 2002 and the Kindergarten wing was inaugurated 2 years later. The school was finally completed in 2006 which now offers the entire K-12 grades. 2009 was a special year for the foundation and Agassi Prep as its first batch of seniors graduated that year with every single student in the class accepted into college. That same year, the foundation decided to strengthen its focus on education and showed it by renaming the organization to the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education (AAFE). They also changed the organization’s logo and mission to match their dedication to educating children.

The AAFE is now pouring all its efforts and fundraising activities to Agassi Prep, which in 2012, began an expansion project to accommodate more students.
