Books for Africa (BFA), a non-profit organization, is dedicated to the collection and distribution of books to children and adults in Africa. From its headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota as well as its warehouses in St. Paul and Atlanta, the organization works toward ending Africa’s book famine.

From its humble beginnings, BFA is considered as the largest shipper of library books, magazines and other educational resources into many African nations. It has shipped over 28 million books since 1988 – and counting. In 2012, it shipped 2.2 million books to 22 African countries as well as over 600 computers and 15 brand-new law libraries.

Due to the shipping costs, BFA relies on donations as well as establishes partnerships with the likes of Better World Books to cover these expenses. In fact, Better World Books is its largest single source for funds and post-secondary books.

BFA is recognized for its compliance with charity standards. For example, it has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and meets the Charities Review Council’s standards.
