It was in 2013 that President
Barack Obama laid out his comprehensive plans to prevent gun violence in the
United States. Every year, thousands of Americans die because of gun-related
deaths. In 2011 alone, there were about 33,000 Americans who got victimized in
gun-related activities.
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence
is a non-profit organization that aims to address the issue of gun violence in
the country. This organization is an affiliate of the Brady Campaign to Prevent
Gun Violence and both organizations are collectively known as the Brady
Campaign. It was way back in 1974 that the group got formed as the National Council
to Control Handguns. The group was named after James Brady, who got permanently
disabled as a result of the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt in 1981.
Since its inception the group has
been actively working on disseminating information about the hazards of guns in
the country. Through their collective efforts, the group aims to help save as
many lives as possible from the dangers brought about by handguns.
