Malaria is known
to be a disease that is infectious and is brought about by mosquitoes. An
outbreak is always feared, and the Against Malaria
Foundation is in the forefront of raising funds for areas that need help
the most.
Rob Mather
started the organization from a previous charity experience. Following the
success of his first venture through swimming, he and his two friends found
their way to making malaria the subject of their next cause. World Swim Against
Malaria was launched on December 3, 2005 and a quarter of a million people
actually participated to raise funds.
What they
promised to do with the funds was to use every single cent to buy insecticidal
nets that will last long, and hopefully for good. The said nets will then be
mounted on top of every beneficiary’s bed and head to serve as protection. And
when this is achieved, they will acknowledge what has happened by demonstrating
it to the people.
Thanks to
Mather’s initiative, more people can sleep soundly at night – without having to
worry about malaria.
