The Food Allergy Initiative is
a non-government, non-profit organization established in 1998. It aims to fund
studies that help find cure, improve diagnosis and keep individuals safe
through education and advocacies. It is the largest source of funding and
support for food allergy-related research in
America. As of 2011, the association has raised over $72 million and
consistently receives four-star ratings from the Charity Navigator, one of
United States’ largest and prestigious charity evaluators.
While operating
within the country’s National Institutes of Health guidelines, the Food Allergy
Initiative works to augment the number of research projects that concentrate on
food allergies, health care institutions that have food allergy-related
clinical programs, physicians trained in dealing with food-allergic patients as
well as boost the sum of government funding allotted for food allergy studies.
It works alongside educational institutions in the United States including
Harvard University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York University and
Northwestern University and Feinberg School of Medicine.
