A world living in peace. The International Peace Institute (IPI) works with organizations, groups and individuals particularly with the United Nations and its Secretariat and members in promoting effective multilateral approaches and responses to peace, safety and security issues around the world. The institute specializes in research, analysis and policy development for world peace, thus, providing valuable inputs in counteracting the wide range of threats and in reinforcing the strengths to it.

The international, independent and nonprofit think tank has staff members from more than 20 nations in their New York headquarters as well as in their offices in Europe (Vienna, Austria) and in the Middle East (Manama, Bahrain). Such a multinational staffing arrangement contributes to the multicultural (i.e., culture-sensitive, local-centric) approaches recommended by the institute in current and emerging issues related to world security.

The IPI achieves its purposes not only by close coordination with the United States - even its headquarters are located in front of the international body's headquarters - but also by strengthening the capabilities of international peace, safety and security institutions. Its research into policy as well as its conventions, publications and outreach programs are well-known in the industry for their useful insights, strong networking opportunities, and concrete solutions to problems related to world security.

Since 2005, Terje Rød-Larsen has led the institute; Terje Rød-Larsen is a noted diplomat and sociologist whose main contribution to world security was the Oslo Peace Accords as its principal architect. The institute focuses on reform in the United Nations, peace-building and state-building, and response capacity for crisis situations among international institutions.

Resources including money, equipment and talent donated to the institute are resources donated well (i.e., with accountability and transparency). The institute continues to receive high ratings from Charity Navigator, Guidestar, and Charity Watchdog, all of which are the leading watchdogs in the charity industry.
