Child abuse is a sad yet harsh
reality. Children all over the world are being targeted by heartless
individuals, bringing them a kind of pain that their youth could not even begin
to understand. To stop these acts of abuse towards helpless youth, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children takes action.
The National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children is a nonprofit organization established in 1984. It was born
during a time of tragedy, when children across America were disappearing
without a trace. Among them was six-year-old Etan Patz, who disappeared on his
way to school in New York. He was never seen again.
The organization was formed
as a response to these disappearances by then President Ronald Reagan. After 25
years, NCMEC became the nation’s leading nonprofit working closely with law
enforcement to solve cases of missing and sexually exploited children. Their
work includes twenty different Congressional
mandates, but there
is still much more to be done.
