In 1999, Dr. David Gaw and Dr. John Lamb saw the need for a family practice medical clinic dedicated to providing primary healthcare services for low-income, usually uninsured, residents in Nashville. After several meetings for potential donors, staff members, and stakeholders, Faith Family Medical Clinic welcomed its first patients on 8 October 2001.

Today, the Faith Family Medical Clinic is a beloved presence in the greater Nashville area especially among its clients – low-income families and individuals, who usually do not have health insurance for their primary medical care needs. Low-cost primary care providers including physicians and nurses provide patients with quality primary medical care as well as comprehensive care including referrals.

Primary healthcare is a must since diagnosis and treatment can be made as early as possible, thus, increasing the chances for successful recovery and decreasing the risks for complications. Many patients will skip on primary healthcare services for insufficient funds but will likely find themselves dealing with complications, which often require more expensive treatments than the underlying medical condition itself.

The patients are also provided with education and counselling services designed to provide them with practical information about adopting a healthier lifestyle. The healthcare providers also provide their patients with hope, compassion and empathy that, in turn, contribute to their better emotional, mental and spiritual health. Faith Family Medical Clinic encourages its patients to take personal responsibility for their health and wellness while also emphasizing dignity and respect for all individuals.

The clinic also provides for continuity of healthcare services. Patients are able to establish long-term professional relationships with their physicians, for example, which bode well for their overall health.

Faith Family Medical Clinic offers a wide range of services including family medicine, physical therapy, and counselling as well as diagnostic lab testing. When its physicians and its facilities cannot address a patient’s medical needs, referrals are made to other professionals (i.e., specialists) who offer their services for a reduced fee.
