Joslin Diabetes Center is among the United States’ foremost organizations dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure for diabetes. Its avowed vision is for a world free from the scourge of diabetes and its complications, a vision based on its dedication to excellence as an internationally-recognized diabetes research and development, education and information, and treatment center. Its focus is three-fold in nature – emphasis on what can be done in the present, anticipation for the improvements of the future, and recognition of its past achievements.

The center’s research model provides basic researchers and clinicians with ample opportunities in fostering creative thinking, spurring discoveries, and forging bonds, all of which are beneficial for the diabetes community. Many of the important discoveries made in diabetes care were developed in the center.

Elliott P. Joslin, M.D., the founder of Joslin Diabetes Center, believed in the power of patient education, empowerment and education in the successful management of diabetes including its symptoms and complications. Today, JoslinCare’s core is still in these three interrelated aspects.

Joslin Diabetes Center grew from its founder’s private practice more than a hundred years ago. The organization is now recognized as an independent, non-profit institution recognized worldwide for its drive toward finding innovative, if not revolutionary, solutions in all aspects of diabetes management from prevention to treatment, research, and education. It is also affiliated with the Harvard Medical School, a partnership that strengthens the center’s influence in the scientific community while also spurring it forward.

The center also continues to expand its programs and projects including its facilities as well as establish partnerships with other concerned institutions. It also publishes an online newsletter, Speaking of Diabetes, which features news, insights, and research about diabetes as well as human interest stories about diabetes patients.

While diabetes Types 1 and 2 are still among modern man’s most troubling diseases, the efforts of the likes of Joslin Diabetes Center takes humanity one step closer to the cure.
