Based in Dallas, Texas, the American Heart Association (AHA) continues to lead the way for people to live healthier lives by promoting programs that create awareness of heart diseases and healthier ways of living.  The AHA recognizes that heart diseases are the #1 killer in America and strokes are not far behind, thus, the association is active in creating awareness and funding research programs in the prevention of heart diseases and strokes.

In addition to providing information to the general public through their website, the AHA also provides online resources for medical professionals to assist in the treatment of various heart problems and to keep them abreast with the developments of treatments of these diseases.

One of the programs of the AHA focuses on the creation of a standard for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In the interest of spreading awareness to the public, the AHA released an application in 2011 that fully demonstrates the standard procedures for hands-only CPR.  The app aims to make people more aware of how to provide CPR in emergency situations.

Aside from being one of the leaders in creating awareness of heart related problems, the AHA also provides awareness on the causes and prevention of strokes through its affiliate, the American Stroke Association (ASA).

Another area that the AHA focuses on is research. The association has spent over $3.5 billion to further the available knowledge in the causes and prevention of heart related problems and strokes. The association provides support to individuals and organizations in the research field that are currently working to discover better processes to prevent heart problems and strokes in the form of grants and fellowship. These grants are offered by the AHA National Research Program.

Being a non-profit organization, the AHA relies on contributions from its members and other organizations. It continues to be one of the most trusted charitable institutions in the United States.
