Established in
2006 by Erna Grasz,
a corporate executive of Silicon Valley, Emmy Moshi, a Tanzanian businesswoman
residing in Kilimanjaro and Hellen Nkuraiya, a school principal and respected
member of the Kenyan Maasai tribe, The Asante Africa Foundation is a
non-profit, non-government association that aims to provide every African child
with direct access to high quality education, regardless of his or her
socioeconomic background.
Believing that
education empowers people to make informed and sound decisions, transform
dreams to reality, uplift their families’ condition and facilitate the process
for their communities to become self-sustaining, the foundation prides itself
with 18 partnerships with schools in 22 Tanzanian and Kenyan villages. Nearly
500 teachers and 30,000 students have benefited from the scholarships provided
by Asante, and more than 50 infrastructure projects were accomplished to date
including schools, dormitories, water tanks and latrines.
The success and
continued growth of the Asante
African Foundation is primarily attributed to its reliance on local
expertise and knowledge to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that
are viable and maintainable in the cultures and communities it works with.
