The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a Harvard Medical School
teaching hospital located in Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 1996 when the
Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital (formed in 1916 and
1896, respectively) merged, the teaching hospital is an independent institution
ranked as one of the top recipients of funding for biomedical research from the
National Institutes of Health. With close to $200 million in funding every
year, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center performs over 850 actively
sponsored projects and up to 200 clinical trials.
Considered one of the best hospitals in the country, the Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center is also one of the biggest in New England,
a member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, and is affiliated with the
Joslin Diabetes Center, as well as a part of the Boston MedFlight consortium.
Aside from featuring a Level I trauma center with a rooftop helipad, the
hospital is also the official medical center that attends to the needs of the
Boston Red Sox.
