The world’s largest independent cancer research charity was created through the merger of the Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Merged on February 4, 2002, this non-profit organization aims to reduce the number of deaths brought about by cancer.

There are about 40,000 regular volunteers who help out raise money through donations, community fundraising, retail and corporate partnerships, events and legacies. These volunteers also aid the organization in carrying out various activities done in universities, institutes and various hospitals across UK. Major function of Cancer Research UK is the research of various means of preventing, diagnosing and treating the disease. One of the biggest projects of the organization is its movement to ban smoking in England. It has worked with the government to inform and improve cancer services and continues to campaign to further take actions against smoking.

To further see results of the organization’s efforts in fighting cancer, they have worked with several other organizations including National Health Service, NICE, National Cancer Intelligence Network, Wellcome Trust and the UK Department of Health.
