The Asia Injury Prevention Foundation, more commonly known as AIP Foundation, is a non-profit interest group of enterprise that works to combat the traffic crisis in Southeast Asian countries. Traffic safety has become an increasingly important and pressing issue especially in developing countries, not only in Asia, but in other parts of the globe as well. While commerce grows rapidly in these nations, it is apparent how travel infrastructures are not allowed to catch up, therefore causing transport and traffic problems and deficiency. It is estimated that each day, more than 3,000 people die because of accidents on the road. Changing and reducing this statistics is just among the foundation’s goals.

Founded in 1999, AIP Foundation is headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam with branch offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. Their methods of promoting their projects include acquiring media attention and direct appeal campaigns. They are also known for their helmet donation programs.

AIP Foundation owns Protec, a non-profit helmet manufacturer. Its mission is to design and develop high quality yet affordable helmets that are equipped enough to address the road safety needs of consumers in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. Protec is known for producing “tropical helmets” that are light and comfortable enough to be worn even at the hottest days of summer. Because of the common complaint among motorists about full-faced helmets being too heavy and hot, they tend to refuse wearing them, putting them at higher accident risks. With Protec’s helmets, motorists no longer need to ride their motorcycles or bicycles unprotected. Protec’s profits are directed back to AIP Foundation, securing funding for its safety programs.

The foundation is behind the program “Helmets for Kids,” which was officially launched on November 19, 2000. Through the program, the foundation is able to distribute safety helmets among children. They also aim to expose the beneficiaries to the importance of traffic safety.
