International SeaKeepers Society encourages business and yachting executives to be more conscientious of their undertakings, and to work together in protecting the already deteriorating state of the world’s oceans. The organization, founded by Paul Allen and other yacht owners in 1998, is not a mere blind advocate of the marine cause. The small but strong membership of International Seakeepers Society is composed of business men, yacht clubs, marine scientists, divers, government bodies, various corporations and other entities committed to protecting the ocean.

One of the biggest goals and achievements of the International SeaKeepers Society is the creation of a monitoring device, SeaKeeper 1000, which yacht owners can attach to their vessels so that wherever they go, they can monitor changes in the ocean. Several parameters of this device include oxygen saturation, sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, and pH level. Basically, these data help scientists study bodies of water better.

International SeaKeepers Society has not fallen short in responding to crisis affecting the ocean. When the BP Oil Spill devastated the Gulf of Mexico, International SeaKeepers developed a sensor that allows sea water in that area to flow through a certain section. Data is interpreted, and the information derived will be available to scientists, government and non-government funded.
