Statistics have shown that a child dies every 21 seconds because of water-related illness. Come to think of it, the world is made up of 70% water and yet the scarcity of clean water is still a problem. About a billion of the world’s population doesn’t have access to clean water and 200 million hours a day are spent by women across the globe to collect potable water.

Water is life and everyone has the right to clean water. This is the advocacy of Water.Org, to make a change and supply the world access to potable water. As a result of the merging of two organizations H2O Africa and WaterPartners International in the year 2009, Water.org was created. Transforming hundreds of communities in Africa, this nonprofit organization is co-founded by both Matt Damon and Gary White.

To create lasting change, this organization has been driving water sectors for new innovations and real partnerships and greater transparency. They are not just geared towards the distribution of clean water but they are also addressing problems in sanitation.

Through grants and loans, they are able to fund their water projects. Research programs, various evaluations and monitoring are also being done to ensure that every project has a bigger and longer impact to the community. They also use third party evaluators to check how fulfilling their missions are.

The group has partnered with numerous institutions to help bring clean water to the world. They are also calling the involvement of the community in creating their water projects to lessen the capital cost.

They provide intensive trainings and seminars to share insights on the link between good hygiene and good health with hopes of increasing commitment and involvement in the community.

Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the group now has two satellite offices. One in Tamil Nadu, India and the other in Nairobi, Kenya.
