Witness for Peace or WFP is an activist organization based in the United States. Founded in 1983, it was originally established to oppose the then administration, led by Ronald Reagan, as it supported the Nicaraguan Contras. They alleged and worked against the widespread atrocities that the counterrevolutionary groups got involved with back then.

In order for the organization to be able to show people the real deal, they took US citizens to Nicaragua for them to personally see what their government’s military policy has brought. After the end of the Contra war, the organization shifted their focus to other Caribbean and Latin American countries such as Mexico and Colombia. WFP is known to Latin Americans as Accion Permanente por la Paz.

Currently, WFP maintains a nationwide base composed of more than 20,000 members. They have also sent over 13,000 citizens to Caribbean and Latin American countries to fulfill their short-term transformative delegation programs.
